Dante | Naples Inspired

January 22nd, 2010

If you haven’t tried Dante pizza yet- it’s worth a trip. Ever played indoor bocce ball? They got it. Along with a delicious pie in a cool space. Props to Daake Design on the branding and interior! Thank you Nick for making my belly happy with some great pizza. Try the one with egg on it if you go. I know it sounds weird, but it rocked my taste buds. Cool diggs, great people and pizza that tastes like it was delivered through a magical brick oven in Naples, make this worth a taste test. It took me back to that time in Italy… Long story. Hope the images make you hungry!

USC Hospital Work From Geoff Johnson

January 8th, 2010

Here’s some of Geoff Johnson’s latest work for USC Hospital. The work was part of an overall brand campaign created by Swanson Russell.

There were several elements to the shoot that included a series of portraits of 6 highly respected doctors. We decided to shoot an up close portrait along with
an environmental for each doctor. The other part was to shoot the doctors at work-everything from surgeries to patient consultations. The ultimate goal was to capture emotional moments of doctors and patients. The creative vision for the entire campaign was to go black and white.

The coolest part of this project was is where the images are being used. “Union Station Domination” is what they call it and that’s where you’ll see the work. Kate Heller worked her magic on the massive 1GB files. Check out the gallery to see some of the work up in the hustle of a transportation hub.

Sometimes I see a scene and carry a vision for a shot around with me for a while until the elements come together. There is a wall with huge piano keys I pass often heading east on Dodge St. I’ve wanted to photograph my uncle Jack, a pianist in Wisconsin, in the scene for a while, but there is the distance issue. We finally did some shots on a blustery fall day. Along with some studio shots, the overcast day set up great light for my black and white vision.

We got some love over on the Silicon Prairie News site recently promoting our blog. Thanks for letting us do some entertaining with the video SPN and being patient with us getting it done.
We try not to take ourselves too seriously. A couple BTS photos from the shoot.

Artist | Jake Balcom

December 9th, 2009

Andrew continues the documentation of local creatives with a collection of photos of a work in progress that will soon be displayed in his own neighborhood. Little Italy, just south of the Old Market, will soon highlight the art of Lincoln blacksmith, Jake Balcom.  Jake is working on a 13 ft metal fork wrapped with spaghetti to be installed on 7th Street between Pacific and Pierce Streets.  The oversized fork ties in the fun personality of the neighborhood with the restaurant roots of former Caniglia’s, and existing Orsi’s Bakery.  Keep your ears tuned for “Fork Fest” once the weather turns a little nicer next spring.
